CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT TOOLS |
WHICH TOOL? |
|
There are many types of Configuration Management tools. Some CM tools are stand alone tools, and some come in the form of modules which add on to
a much larger tool. The largest tools are now called Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools. These tools try to be all things to everyone. Next you have Materiel Requirements Planning Tools (MRP). These have been
followed with the newer class of tools which are called Product Data Management (PDM) tools. As information integration becomes more important, the dividing line between these tools becomes clouded. It is important to
remember that the Configuration Manager, sadly, has little say as to which tool will be selected. Typically, Configuration Management is an after thought, which follows the tool selection process. Configuration Management is
also the last organization, with the smallest budget, to buy tools. When you do get the opportunity to buy a CM tool, remember, someone will have to live with your decision for a long time.
How many of these tools help you with your daily tasks? They do a great job of vaulting tons of information. But what do you do with it? Granted, the trend today is to talk about high level principles, but where do you turn when you are the one responsible for writing a plan or conducting an audit? |
NEW "TASKWARE" FROM CMTF |
|
CMTF is currently developing a revolutionary new CM tool. The tool will be 100% Microsoft Office compatible. It will be low cost - and I mean low cost. It will work with your current tools, stand alone, and support a networked environment. Experts in CM will be able to tailor the
tool to incorporate the way you want to work. The CM novice will benefit from a Virtual Configuration Manager. The virtual assistant will provide expert support, from developing a CM Plan, to conducting a CM Audit.
Current tools on the market require an expert to set up and get running. They do not come with any "default models" to support your particular industry. We are addressing this opportunity by developing "Taskware;" plug-ins which will address the unique requirements, standards, and practices of your business operation. Regular updates will keep you current with the latest standards and trends. Writing a CM Plan will be as simple as clicking a button. The appropriate ISO, SEI, and other requirements will be automatically incorporated. The requirements matrix for justification, along with assessment, metrics, and auditing criteria will be generated along with the fully compliant CM Plan. We will automate your daily CM activities at a price you can afford. |
